Session 202: “Das Ornament der Masse” by Siegfried Kracauer
For this session, Gian-Andri Toendury has selected “Das Ornament der Masse” by Siegfried Kracauer. Kracauer’s 1929 article analyses the cultural phenomenon of the Tiller Girls and other events involving large numbers of actors, like the representations in stadiums for opening celebrations that still exist today. His main point is that they are expressions of the irrationality (!) of capitalism.
All Theory Tuesdays sessions are free and open to the public, however it’s encouraged that you read the relevant PDF before attending.
More info & PDF will be posted soon.
