Theory Tuesdays

Theory Tuesdays is a nonacademic platform for theoretical discussion founded, organized and coordinated by artist Philip Matesic since 2009. Participants read beforehand then discuss contemporary art, design, literary, cultural and critical theory on a weekly basis, with the texts selected and introduced each week by a different person.

Session 145: “Seeing Is Forgetting the Name of the Thing One Sees”

During this summer Theory Tuesdays session, Philip Matesic presented excerpts from “Seeing Is Forgetting the Name of the Thing One Sees” (University of California Press, 2008) on the Santa Monica State Beach in Santa Monica, California. The book chronicles a thirty year conversation between the Los Angeles artist Robert Irwin and writer Lawrence Weschler.
