Theory Tuesdays

Theory Tuesdays is a nonacademic platform for theoretical discussion founded, organized and coordinated by artist Philip Matesic since 2009. Participants read beforehand then discuss contemporary art, design, literary, cultural and critical theory on a weekly basis, with the texts selected and introduced each week by a different person.

Session 122: OnCurating “(New) Institution(alism)”

During this Theory Tuesdays session, the latest issue of OnCurating “(New) Institution(alism)” was presented and discussed. The issue centered on new institutionalism as a self-reflexive artistic-curatorial practice in institutions, whose conditions, structures and implications resonate in the contemporary organization of art.

Lucie Kolb and Gabriel Flückiger focused on the critical approaches to thinking and speaking about the institutional organization of art that are at the root of New Institutionalism, asking fundamental questions about the social potential of contemporary art institutions.
